Body Care

Before Starting:
Items you will need: Plastic container, scale (optional), plastic zip-lock or freezer bags, fragrance and color. Basically, you will be mixing product in a zip lock bag and fill bottles by simply cutting a corner of the bag.

Steps:
With various sizes of zip-lock and freezer bags on the market, buy bags that will be about twice the size of what you intend to mix. Don¹t mix product with previously used bags due to hygiene and cross contamination.

Stand a zip-lock bag inside a plastic container. If you use a freezer bag, roll the edges over the side of the container. Careful! Avoid allowing fingers to touch parts of the bag that will come into contact with the product.

Place the container with the bag on a scale and O% the measuring indicator.Pour pre-determined amount of base into open bag. Do not fill bag more than half way. If your scale is accurate, add 1% or more scent. Without a scale, calculate a teaspoon being 1/6 oz. or 5ml. This 1 teaspoon (1/6 oz/5ml. ) will fragrance 20 oz of lotion or cream.

Add color.

Zip lock or twist tie the bag and double check its sealed. Pull the bag out of the container and with your fingers, massage the color and fragrance together. You can see through this bag while mixing, so you will notice when it is fully blended.

When ready to pour into a bottle, cut a small corner off the bag with sanitized scissors and fill. Use the entire product in the bag because the open end is exposed to air. Try to fill all your bottles at once, without putting the bag down. Having to put the bag down may cause contamination to occur from surface contact.

Bath Care

Before Starting:
Items you will need: Plastic container, scale (optional), plastic zip-lock or freezer bags, fragrance, color and solubilizer (optional for gel products)

Gel and clear bath products will cloud and thin out if more than 1% fragrance is used. If more fragrance is required, premix fragrance with one part solubilizer to one part fragrance before adding to gels, bubble bath or shampoos. It will help to keep your product clear. The biggest problem is that fragrance or essential oils affect viscosity, the liquid is unknown and could be butylene, propylene glycol, glycerine, oils or combined solvents. Each will react differently and might have to add salt if the product breaks or is too watery.

Steps:

Place a sanitized container on a scale and O% the measuring indicator. Pour pre-determined amount of base into the container. Combine 1% scent plus 1% solubilizer (optional). Without a scale, calculate a teaspoon being 1/6 oz.or 5 ml. This 1 teaspoon (1/6 oz/5ml.) will fragrance 20 oz/600 ml of product, plus you will need another teaspoon of solubilizer which you will blend together before adding to the product. Add to the gel and stir gently to reduce bubbles and cloudiness. As you stir, feel if the tention starts to reduce. If so, you will have to add salt. On 20 oz/600ml, start with 1/4 teaspoon of table salt and stir. You can add up to 1/2 a teaspoon if needed. If too much is added, the viscosity will drop suddenly. Add distilled water to reduce the salt content if this occurs.
